Scary Holy

One thing you should know about fire is it is hot. One thing you should know about gravity is that it pulls you down. One thing you should know about water is that it is very fluid. If you do not know these qualities, you are in for a lot of hurt. If you do not recognize fire is hot, you will get burned when you touch it. If you do not recognize gravity pulls you down, you will likely die when you step off a cliff. If you do not recognize water is very fluid, you will get drenched if you step out on some deep water. These elements are not mean or vindictive, that is just their natures, and if you do not recognize and respect that, you will get hurt by them.

One thing you should know about holiness is that it automatically cleanses anything or anyone in its presence that is not compatible with holiness. This is important to know and respect for a few reasons. God is holy and his nature will automatically cleanse anything that comes into his presence that is not compatible with him. That cleansing process can mean death when it involves people. Read the story of Nadab and Abihu being killed by God in Leviticus 10:1-10 and you will see an example of this. This happened not because God was mean or hateful; it happened because his holy nature automatically cleanses all that come into his presence. This holiness is scary, no?

We like to think of God as love, and we love him when we think of him that way. We don’t know what to do with God when we see him as holy because we do not understand holy. Holiness calls us into a better life, and it offers us a better life. However, if God’s holiness automatically cleanses, we need to get a better understanding of holy or we will be in a whole lot of trouble. The holiness of God is where the life is, the best life, so we do not want to run away from the Holy God. But if we are not compatible with God’s holiness, that is where death is. That puts people in a bind, because our DNA got genetically engineered when we took in this poison known as sin. We were no longer compatible with God. When that happened, getting too close to God became deadly.

Thankfully, we do not have to stay away or run away from God, because he made a way to cure our spiritual DNA so that we can be compatible with him again. More about that in the next post. For now, give some healthy thought to scary holy and the implications for you. If you don’t understand what is wrong in you, you won’t appreciate the remedy.

Una cosa que debes saber sobre el fuego es que hace caliente. Una cosa que debes saber sobre la gravedad es que te tira hacia abajo. Una cosa que debes saber sobre el agua es que es muy fluida. Si no conoce estas cualidades, le espera mucho daño. Si no reconoces que el fuego está caliente, te quemarás al tocarlo. Si no reconoce que la gravedad lo empuja hacia abajo, probablemente morirá al caer por un acantilado. Si no reconoces que el agua es muy fluida, te empaparás si pisas aguas profundas. Estos elementos no son malos ni vengativos, esa es simplemente su naturaleza, y si no los reconoces y respetas, te lastimarán.

Una cosa que debes saber acerca de la santidad es que automáticamente limpia cualquier cosa o persona en su presencia que no sea compatible con la santidad. Es importante saberlo y respetarlo por varias razones. Dios es santo y su naturaleza automáticamente limpiará cualquier cosa que entre en su presencia y que no sea compatible con él. Ese proceso de limpieza puede significar la muerte cuando se trata de personas. Lea la historia de Nadab y Abiú siendo asesinados por Dios en Levítico 10:1-10 y verá un ejemplo de esto. Esto no sucedió porque Dios fuera malo u odioso; sucedió porque su naturaleza santa limpia automáticamente todo lo que entra en su presencia. Esta santidad da miedo, ¿no?

Nos gusta pensar en Dios como amor y lo amamos cuando pensamos en él de esa manera. No sabemos qué hacer con Dios cuando lo vemos santo porque no entendemos lo santo. La santidad nos llama a una vida mejor y nos ofrece una vida mejor. Sin embargo, si la santidad de Dios limpia automáticamente, necesitamos entender mejor lo que es santo o estaremos en muchos problemas. La santidad de Dios es donde está la vida, la mejor vida, por eso no queremos huir del Dios Santo. Pero si no somos compatibles con la santidad de Dios, ahí es donde está la muerte. Eso pone a la gente en un aprieto, porque nuestro ADN fue modificado genéticamente cuando ingerimos este veneno conocido como pecado. Ya no éramos compatibles con Dios. Cuando eso sucedía, acercarse demasiado a Dios se volvía mortal.

Afortunadamente, no tenemos que alejarnos ni huir de Dios, porque él creó una manera de curar nuestro ADN espiritual para que podamos ser compatibles con él nuevamente.
